Criminal Cases in the Limestone County Courts
Limestone County divides criminal case files by the level of the alleged offense. The District Clerk holds felony filings for the 77th and 87th Judicial District Courts. The constitutional Limestone County Court has Class A and Class B misdemeanor jurisdiction because the county has no county court at law. Its records are kept by the County Clerk. A city ordinance or Class C matter stays with the municipal court, while a justice court keeps the fine-only cases filed in its precinct.
That split matters at the start. A booking charge may change before a prosecutor files a case, and the arresting agency's first label does not decide which clerk will hold the final court record. When the level is unclear, give the clerk a full name, an approximate filing or offense year, and a cause number if one is known. Ask the city or justice court separately about a fine-only charge or bench warrant. The Limestone County criminal court case file is the source for filed charges, hearings, pleas, judgment, and sentence.

Limestone County Felony Court Files
The 77th and 87th Judicial District Courts hear Limestone County felony cases. Their local settings use the courthouse in Groesbeck, and the District Clerk is the record custodian. The verified fallback is direct contact at P.O. Box 230, Groesbeck, TX 76642, by phone at 254-729-3206, or by fax at 254-729-2960. A payment page is not a case-search tool. Payment controls do not reveal the filings, event history, or judgment in a criminal case.
The official Limestone County District Clerk page shows the felony-record office used for that direct route.
This view helps a reader distinguish the clerk who holds the court file from a site that only accepts a balance or fine payment.
How to Search Case Records
No single portal contains all Limestone County criminal cases. Use the route that matches the case level, then confirm any online result with the clerk when a record is old, missing, or needed as a certified copy. The county's docket page is a set of changing hearing PDFs, not a database. The County Clerk has also described iDocket misdemeanor coverage from 1985 forward, but live vendor access and document charges should be confirmed before relying on it.
- Classify the matter as felony, Class A or B misdemeanor, or a fine-only municipal or justice case. Do not assume the original booking charge stayed the same.
- Review the current county court docket PDFs for a misdemeanor setting, or follow the County Clerk's iDocket route for its stated 1985-present coverage.
- Call the County Clerk at 254-729-5504 for misdemeanor history and copies, or the District Clerk at 254-729-3206 for a felony cause search and images.
- Contact the proper municipal or justice court about a Class C charge, a bench warrant, or a capias-pro-fine. Online ticket payment is not a full record search.
- Ask the custodian for the price and timing of a plain or certified copy. Current criminal copy, search, and certification fees were not found in the official research.
The County Court docket page exposes only a small set of verified controls because it is an index of PDFs rather than a query form.

Limestone County Criminal Docket PDFs
The Limestone County Court docket page publishes hearing-specific PDFs. Observed categories include arraignments, status settings, jury matters, trials before the court, DWI/DWLI lists, motions to revoke probation, jury pleas, and expunction lists. Each calendar is a preview of a scheduled setting and warns that it is subject to change. A missing person is not proof that no Limestone County court case exists. It means only that the name was not found on the dockets checked.
The PDF approach makes date and hearing type useful starting points, but it leaves older history, filings, and certified judgments with the clerk.
A sampled docket displayed a five-digit cause number, hearing date and time, judge, defendant name, offense, Class A or B label, file date, offense date, attorney, bond information, continuance count, and days in jail. It did not show a full pleading file, disposition, judgment, statute citation, complete financial ledger, or victim data. Treat the docket as a calendar, not a case profile.
What the Case File Shows
A Limestone County criminal case file follows the prosecution after filing. It can show how the charged offense differs from the initial arrest allegation, who appeared, which motions were filed, and whether the matter ended in dismissal, acquittal, deferred adjudication, or conviction. Document access varies. Some entries may be visible online while the actual image must be requested from the clerk.
| Cause Number and Court | The local identifier, assigned court, filing date, and case status. |
|---|---|
| Charging Document | An indictment for a felony or an information or complaint used for the applicable charge. |
| Docket Entries | Settings, motions, continuances, orders, pleas, and other dated case events. |
| Bond and Warrants | Public bond events, warrant or capias entries, and related court action when recorded. |
| Disposition and Judgment | The result for each filed count, including dismissal, acquittal, conviction, or deferred adjudication. |
| Sentence and Costs | Confinement, fine, community supervision, restitution, conditions, and public financial entries as available. |
Note: A bond amount describes release security, not guilt, a plea, or the final Limestone County criminal case result.
Reading a Limestone County Cause
A cause number ties filings and events to one Limestone County court matter. The sampled county docket used a five-digit format, but a reader should copy the number exactly as the clerk displays it. The docket is chronological. A setting marked status, arraignment, motion to revoke probation, trial before court, or jury plea describes what was scheduled, not what ultimately occurred.
Several terms carry precise meanings. An arraignment is the stage when the accused is called to plead. A disposition is the outcome on a charge. Deferred adjudication places a person on community supervision without an immediate finding of guilt, though qualifying deferred information can appear in the DPS public product. A dismissal ends the count without a conviction, but it does not automatically erase the arrest trail. A capias is a writ that directs custody after a qualifying charge or court event. When a final result matters, request the judgment or signed dismissal rather than drawing a conclusion from a calendar line.
Stages of a Criminal Case
After an arrest, a magistrate gives the warnings required by Article 15.17 and addresses probable cause and bail. Prosecutors then decide what to file. A felony may proceed by grand-jury indictment, while a misdemeanor commonly proceeds by information. Arraignment places the charge and plea before the court. Pretrial settings address discovery, motions, scheduling, and possible resolution. A plea or trial leads to the court's disposition, followed by judgment and sentencing when there is a conviction.
Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
Limestone County appeals from these courts can move to the Tenth Court of Appeals. That later review does not turn an early bond line or setting notice into a final outcome. Read the signed order and any appeal activity together.
Limestone Criminal Cases and re:SearchTX
re:SearchTX is a statewide court document platform, but it must not be described as a complete Texas criminal-case search. The Texas Judicial Council's 2024 reporting says criminal case records are excluded. Even where a portal account exposes participating court material, Limestone County clerk participation and document access can vary. A zero result therefore does not replace a clerk search.
The screen is useful as a state document-platform reference, while the County Clerk and District Clerk remain the verified Limestone County criminal-record routes.
For an older misdemeanor that does not appear online, use the County Clerk because its published iDocket description begins in 1985. Ask the clerk about anything earlier. For an archived felony image or a cause absent online, call the District Clerk. State whether a plain copy is enough or whether an authenticated certified copy is required.
Access & Restrictions
The Texas Public Information Act generally opens government-held information unless an exception or another confidentiality law applies. Judicial case-file access still runs through the court clerk. Active law-enforcement or prosecution material may be withheld when release would interfere with the case, and personal identifiers can be redacted. Juvenile information, victim and minor details, expunged records, and material covered by an order of nondisclosure may not appear in ordinary public access.
The official Limestone County Justice Court page identifies the separate precinct channels for fine-only matters.
This court layer is distinct from County Clerk misdemeanors and District Clerk felonies, especially for tickets, bench warrants, and capias matters.
A clerk may narrow a request or provide a redacted copy rather than release every page. If no result appears, check spelling, the filing year, the court level, and whether a restricted order may apply. Do not assume that silence proves no case existed.
Federal Cases Outside Limestone Courts
Federal prosecutions are outside the Limestone County clerk system. Limestone County lies in the Western District of Texas, Waco Division. The official PACER Case Locator provides the federal name and case search. PACER requires an account and, as of the research date, charges $0.10 per page with a usual $3 cap for a case-specific document or report. Some searches and reports are not capped, quarterly charges of $30 or less are waived, and sealed material will not appear.
The federal locator should be used only when the matter is federal; it does not fill gaps in a Limestone County criminal court search.
Use the county clerk routes for state misdemeanors and felonies. Federal records begin with PACER and the Waco Division, not with a Limestone County docket PDF. This distinction prevents a missing county result from being misread when the prosecution arose under federal law.
The County Clerk's official page remains the source for misdemeanor custody and its published access description.
That local page completes the channel map by placing misdemeanor records with the clerk who can quote current copy and certification terms.
